Karen Greco is my next guest blogger. She shares some dark history about Providence, R.I. and a bit about her urban fantasy, HELL’S BELLE. She’s giving away ten e-copies (either mobi or ePub, winner’s choice) as part of her tour. Rafflecopter link is below. Welcome, Karen!
In Hell’s Belle, Providence, Rhode Island is a city in decay, not quite on the scale of Detroit, but getting there. In reality, Providence is a thriving gem, flanked on all sides by world class universities. So there is a huge amount of creative energy not to mention some seriously amazing food.
Providence also has a rich paranormal history. Home to H.P. Lovecraft and, for a short time, a lovesick Edgar Alan Poe, this historic city has its share of hauntings. Even the state of Rhode Island was home to the first vampire scare in New England.
Benefit Street is a one mile stretch half way up College Hill, and is the unofficial demarkation point of the East Side, which is kind of the ritzy side of Providence. The campuses of Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design start on Benefit Street. This street is filled with beautifully restored historic homes, many of which date back to the colonial era. It is also home to the The Athenaeum, an extraordinary library where Edgar Alan Poe fell in the love.
Benefit Street is also the most haunted street in all of New England.
Originally, Benefit Street was Back Street, a glorified pathway behind people’s homes. As Providence grew, the city decided that widening this access road would be to the “benefit” of all (hence the name).
But during this period in history, people’s back yards were also family cemeteries. So the project to widen the road meant that family burial plots had to relocate. In all likelihood, not all the bones were found.
Fans of paranormal should absolutely make a trip to this incredible city. Rich history, gorgeous art, amazing food, and the opportunity to ghost hunt makes this tiny city irresistible.
More About Hell’s Belle
Half-vampire, half-human, Nina Martinez spent most of her life underground as part of an elite secret team of government agents who quietly take down rogue monsters — the human world none the wiser.
She moves back to her hometown of Providence, RI to keep an eye on the recent uptick in supernatural activity, and to help run the bar she co-owns with her aunt. Her attempt at a “regular” life, not to mention a budding relationship with smoking hot FBI agent Max, is cut short because of a string of ritual murders targeting the city’s community of witches.
But Nina’s investigation unearths deadly secrets from her long buried parents. Now the target of supernatural assassins, could Nina be the most dangerous vampire hybrid to ever exist? No wonder she can’t get a date.
Hell’s Belle is available on Amazon.
