Giveaway Rules

  1. No purchase necessary.
  2. Void where prohibited by law.
  3. “Giveaway” means “sweepstakes.”
  4. Open to individuals 18 or older.
  5. Giveaways will be either “U.S. only” or “international” depending on the mailing costs associated with the giveaway. Giveaways are “U.S. only” unless otherwise stated.
  6. Unless otherwise stated, giveaways will end, and a winner will be determined, within two months of the post that first announced the giveaway.
  7. Winners will be randomly selected.
  8. Participants are not required to do anything to participate in the giveaway other than let me know they want to participate. The giveaway post may mention other ways to enter, but participants can also enter by simply commenting beneath the post announcing the giveaway. EXCEPTION: Giveaways managed with a Rafflecopter form — I cannot manually enter anyone into a Rafflecopter form. If I’m sponsoring a giveaway with a Rafflecopter entry form, you must use the Rafflecopter entry form to enter. See #9 below.
  9. Some of my giveaways involve other sites and/or a Rafflecopter form managed by others. I don’t create or manage the Rafflecopter entry forms. My understanding, and intent, is that the Rafflecopter form will give everyone an easy way to enter the giveaway and determine a random winner.
  10. Winner agrees to allow me to share their name and likeness.
  11. I will announce winners in a blog post, the comments section of the blog post announcing the giveaway, or my newsletter if applicable, after the giveaway has closed. I usually only use a first name and last initial.
  12. I will attempt to contact the winner by email or through whichever contact means the winner used to enter the contest (Twitter handle, WordPress account, etc.). If the winner does not respond to my attempts to reach them within 48 hours, they will be deemed to have forfeited the giveaway. In such event, I reserve the sole right to give them up to an additional week to respond, at which point, if they do not, I will determine another random winner.
  13. Sometimes the giveaway is a book from Book Depository. To be eligible to win those giveaways, participants must provide a valid address where Book Depository ships.
  14. Sometimes the giveaway is an electronic gift certificate (an “eGC”). To be eligible to win those giveaways, participants must supply a valid email address.
  15. I reserve the right to cancel a giveaway at any time.
  16. Any giveaways, books, or SWAG offered by a guest blogger is the guest blogger’s responsibility. I will assist with their giveaways by putting guest bloggers and winners in contact with one another. If a winner has trouble collecting any giveaway offered by a guest blogger, they should contact me. I reserve the right to offer a substitute giveaway of greater or equal value.
  17. Winners are responsible for reporting the value of their giveaway where required.
  18. The number of eligible entries received determine the odds of winning.
  19. For what it’s worth, I believe that most people who enter giveaways such as the ones I offer are book lovers. Offering the chance to win books, bookstore eGift Certificates, and other author SWAG is my way of saying thanks to readers for supporting not just me but all authors and bookstores in general.
